Providing meals thanks to FareShare

Emerge has partnered with FareShare to deliver much-needed food packages to families. The packages include pre-made meals for women and children as well as for the refuge communal freezer for when families first arrive.

Lara, Volunteer Coordinator, said the partnership has been welcomed by everyone: “With the cost of food going up as well as already having tight budgets, the women have been anxious about making sure their children continue to eat healthily.”

“A homestyle meal shows that somebody cares and has an immediate impact,” Lara said.

“We have so much feedback from mums and children saying the food was delicious.”

FareShare rescues surplus food and cooks free, nutritious meals for people doing it tough. It operates Australia’s largest charity kitchens in Melbourne and Brisbane where its chefs and volunteers work hand in hand to cook the best possible meal for every person.

They supply Emerge with meals and pastries, and a monthly large fruit and vegetable order.

The food is placed into small food boxes by Emerge volunteers who deliver them to families.
