Freshening up our crisis accommodation
April 22, 2022
It has been hands on this year with award-winning Face Constructions renovating our crisis accommodation thanks to funding from through the Victoria’s government’s Housing Stimulus program in the new year.
The work includes replacing bathrooms, toilets and kitchens as well as increasing the safety and security of the five properties. They are owned by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, and managed by Emerge.
“We are delighted with the results so far. The homes certainly needed a make-over given that they properties were built in the 1960s and have had few updates since then,” Jessica, Manager Integrated Family Services, said.
It is not just the houses which are being made over. ReLove (The Run for Good Project) is once again supporting Emerge by providing furniture and household essentials for the properties through its Crate of Kindness initiative.
Jess said that case workers have met with ReLove and volunteers from Built and Charter Hall to selected items for the houses.
“Moving into homes where women can start rebuilding their lives after living in refuge is such an important step. But to be in homes which have been furnished with love and care is huge,” Jess said.
The housing stimulus program is run by Homes Victoria, as part of the Building Works package dedicated to creating thousands of jobs and boosting Victoria’s economic recovery from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
