If you’re experiencing domestic violence, use this information to make a plan that works for you.
Domestic violence is a crime
Crime against the person has increased by 11.8% in 2011-12, largely driven by a rise in family violence-related crime. The number of offences increased by 39.9% (Victoria Police Crime Statistics).
Police believe that the rise is not due to a rise in the number of offences, but more to as a result of improved police responses and an increased reporting of family violence incidents.
Through our advocacy and community education work, Emerge is actively working to increase awareness and understanding of domestic violence. The more we can do to educate the general public about domestic violence, the more we can do to create safer communities free from violence. We deliver talks to various groups including Rotary, local schools, councils and other community networks and organisations.
