Join us at the Walk Against Family Violence
We need your support! Let us come together to remember the women and children who have lost their lives, who have experienced violence and who continue to suffer family violence. WALK to show that we will no longer accept violence against women and children.
The 7th Annual Walk Against Family Violence (WAFV) was established in 2009 to advocate and raise awareness on victims of domestic violence and highlight the urgent need to engage the community to prevent domestic violence affecting women and children of our community. This has been managed and run by eight family violence agencies in the Inner Middle South of Melbourne and the Victorian Police.
The Agencies include Not for Profit and State institutions:, The Salvation Army, Victoria Police, Emerge Women and Children’s Support Network, Family Life, Safe Steps, St.Kilda Legal, Inner South Community Health and Connections UnitingCare. Each organisation plays a hands on role working with women and children experiencing family violence and its prevention or support services.
We endeavour to provide information about family violence to women and their families who’ll attend the event. The Walk Against Family Violence has grown considerably over the previous 6 years, beginning with 250 participants in 2009. The 2014 Walk Against Family Violence brought in 2500+ participants, including prominent politicians, sports people and celebrities. The event coincides with The United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
