Art therapy now for women
Following the success of our art therapy program for children, we are excited to be running an interim pilot art therapy group for women who access our service.
Based on the evaluations of our children’s program, we know that art therapy is a powerful healing modality that helps to promote self-development and self-awareness through creative exploration with art materials.
The weekly group offers ongoing support for up to six women who have been in crisis and are now taking steps to rebuild their lives. The women are able to get together in a safe and non-judgemental space and give visual expression to how they are feeling about the current issues and challenges playing out in their lives. Typical themes that arise include children, partners, safety, emotional issues and boundaries.
Guided by Emerge’s art therapist, the group participants explore a different theme each week and then discuss and share their artwork. The aim is to facilitate emotional expression and to encourage women to develop confidence and a better sense of self.
